Cinch Bugs are now very active!

Cinch bugs are the Property owners and Pest Control Operator biggest problem this time of year. They thrive in hot, humid, and wet conditions that define the Florida summer. Cinch bugs are a parasitic insect that sucks the nutrients from the roots of St. Augustine grass, leaving none to flow to the blades of grass. As a result, the blades take a yellowish hue and shortly thereafter dies. As the insects thrive they move in an outward pattern leaving a dead grass. St. Augustine grass does not regenerate like the Rye grass in the North. It will fill in as it sends “runners” voided areas, but these areas are susceptible to weeds and invasive grasses which will over run your lawn if not addressed promptly.

We ask our customers to be vigilant during the summer months. Watch for small burnt areas, these are most like to appear in areas near driveways, sidewalks, and concrete landscape barriers. The Cinch bugs prefer the radiant warmth of the concrete.

We treat your lawn every 6 1/2 weeks with pesticide to control Cinch bugs. However, flare ups occur during periods of heavy rain. When these arise, we treat your yard with a granular product “Aloft” that is effective within 24 hrs of application. As a Pest Patrol customer, we provide FREE 24 hour emergency service as part of your regular service. Call today for a free no obligation lawn inspection and evaluation TODAY!
